The aim of the research is to identify (The effect of teaching social sciences using the idea filtering strategy on achievement and the development of divergent thinking among second-grade intermediate students).

To achieve the goal of the research, the researcher followed the experimental method, and the limits of the research were limited to a sample of second-grade students in the middle school the city of Babylon governorate for the academic year (2021-2022); The researcher chose a sample of middle school day schools for boys in the General Directorate for the Education of Babylon; Luqman Al-Hakim Intermediate School was deliberately chosen as a field for research; The research sample consisted of (60) students, with (30) students in each of the experimental and control groups.

By using statistical equivalence between the two research groups in a number of variables that may affect the safety of the experiment, including : (chronological age calculated in months; intelligence; previous academic achievement for the subject of history; tribal divergent thinking test).

The researcher prepared (131) behavioral objectives for the last three chapters of historical topics from the social book to be taught for the second intermediate grade.

Prepareed teaching plans for the two research groups; The researcher prepared an achievement test to measure the students' achievement level.

The test consists of (40) test items of the multiple choice type; He also prepared a test of divergent thinking (Alkawi : 2018); The researcher used a set of statistical methods ; The study found that the students of the experimental group who studied using the idea filtering strategy outperformed the students of the control group who studied in the usual way in achieving and developing divergent thinking ; In light of the research results, the researcher came up with several conclusions and recommendations.

Including the adoption of a strategy for filtering ideas in the teaching of social sciences ; To complement the current research, the researcher suggested conducting other studies similar to the current study on students in other stages of study.
