Abstract EN

Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore the extent to which that Kuwaiti university youth, adhere to the curfew and home isolation to limit the spread of the emerging Coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Methods: The study used social survey, descriptive analysis, and regression model to analyze data by using a random sample of 450 male and female students enrolled at Kuwait University.

The study explained the relationship between several factors (seven) used as independent variables and the level of adherence to curfew as a dependent variable in light of the Social Exchange Theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

Results: Findings showed a statistically significant relationship between the dependent variable and six out of the seven independent variables.

It has been found that individuals with high perceptions of the disease risk, high respect to social norms and laws, high awareness of the nature of the disease, and high trust in medical providers and the law implementation process, were more likely to adhere to curfew protocols.

It has also been found that females were more likely to adhere to curfew protocols than males.

Furthermore, results indicated that individuals who used to involve in physical activities were less likely to adhere to curfew conditions.

Conclusion: Findings indicated that the majority of students were fully aware of Covid-19 risk and knowledgeable of its occurrence.

Additionally, adherence to curfew protocols was influenced by perceptions of the disease risk and other factors in accordance with the theoretical framework of the study.
