Abstract EN

Objective: The study aimed to assess the role of self-compliance with social distancing measures in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic in Palestine.

Methods: The study implemented the social survey method, using the purposive non-random sample method, and it was applied to (684) individual residents of Palestine (Gaza Strip and the West Bank).

The study used the scale as a tool which included four dimensions: The first dimension was social distancing at home, the second dimension was social distancing at workplace, the third dimension was social distancing at the university, and the fourth dimension was social distancing in public places.

Results: The results of the study found that the levels of self-compliance with social distancing measures by the study sample at home and at work were average, while the levels of their self-compliance at the university or college and in public places were high.

The study also found that majority of the study sample would adhere to social distancing measures if they were extended by the government.

The study also found statistically significant differences at (α≤0.05) in the study sample responses to self -compliance with social distancing measures in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic due to the gender variable in favor of females, and for the age variable in favor of people of the age group (40-49), and for the place variable in favor of the West Bank residents.

Conclusion: Members of the Palestinian society are self-committed to apply social distancing measures, especially in workplaces, universities, and public places.
