Abstract EN

The production and availability of e-textbooks instead of textbooks represents an emerging experience at Damietta university and its success is threatened by students' preference of textbooks.

therefore, the current research aimed at evaluating the available e-textbooks at Damietta university to explore the extent to which they meet students' preferences in terms of its design.

the research employed descriptive research and a mixed-triangular methods.

the research procedures included: (a) preparation of research tools, which contained a list of students' preferences in e-textbook design, a list of standards that meet these preferences, and an evaluation checklist based on the determined standards, and (b) a random selection of the research sample, which included: 130 students from various academic institutes of the university, 20 staff members, and 525 students from the faculty of education, a sample of e-textbooks.

statistical analysis of the data led to rejecting the research hypotheses, which stated: "there are statistically significant differences between students' gender and their preferences in e-textbook design", "there are statistically significant differences between students' majors and their preferences in e-textbook design", and "the standards that meet students' preferences in e-textbook design are fulfilled at the available e-textbooks in Damietta university".

the results also revealed some strengths of e-textbooks including achieving a approximate of 28% of standards indicators that meet students' preferences regarding the e-textbook content, as well as the ease using its elements.

it also, revealed some weaknesses including lack of accommodating about 72% of standards indicators that meet students' preferences regarding navigation and presentation techniques, enhancing interaction and engagement, adaptation to individual differences, and enabling student' control.

the results were discussed, interpreted, and recommendations for future research were provided.
