Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the absence of Palestinian legal legislation in the field of archives.

The process of preserving the archival document requires a set of practical technical procedures that are included in the legal precautions according to which archivists can maintain and preserve what is kept in his/ her custody.

The legal framework for any task related to the archival work and information is one of the basic guarantees for the development of this work.

In many cases, the absence of the necessary regulations and legislations is the only reason for the failure of one aspect of office activity or documentation.

To achieve her goals, the researcher adopted the personal interviews following a descriptive-analytical approach.

The study sample consisted of those, who were involved in or related to the archival job.

The researcher divided the current study into three main sections.

The first section was related to the various legislations that regulate archives and document preservation.

On the other hand, the second section focused on the establishment of the Palestinian National Archives and the various institutions that include the documentary collections of Palestine.

While the third section dealt with the experience of the archive of the Nablus Municipal Public Library in the absence of Palestinian legal legislation.

Results show that Palestine did not have the National Archives or any documents from it is independent government, until the return to the occupied land government, after the signing of the Oslo Accords.

Moreover, the absence of Palestinian legal legislation in the field of archives led to confusion in the archive procedures in Nablus Municipal Public Library.
