The definition adopted by the sages is different in terms of defining by quantitative, or qualitative description, or by accidental attributes; one of its problems lies in the question whether it is fixed or relative? Or, does the definition of a thing as a generic or a superordinate concept reflect its truth or the part specified thereof? Definitions are important in terms of their use in defining ethical, political, and epistemological issues or in defining the theoretical and applied sciences.

The most notable criterion in realizing the philosophers’ tendencies in definitions is their philosophical approach which decides on the type of definition he/she uses.or the logical definition they reject.

Philosophers adopt various methodologies in defining a conceptmost notably: induction.divisioniproof and delimitation/setting boundaries.
