Abstract EN

This study deals with the structure of the character in the Arabic novelist narrative.

the choice in the present study is made on the narrative achievement of the Iraqi novelist "Sami al-Badri", specifically his novel "bait al-torah".

this structure includes a set of linguistic levels that are described as an actor who performs a role and function in the story.

the character for the narrator is an artistic tool that s/he uses in order to perform a function that s/he wants to draw; first of all, it is a linguistic system that cannot be outside the words in any way.

the writer presents it as an aesthetic structure before it.

being a driver of events in the narrative text.

the present study attempts to reveal the types of characters in this novel in terms of their multiplicity, relying on the theoretical foundations and methodological constraints that determine their structure and function within the narrative structure.

it also attempts to investigate the symbolism of names and their relationship to events, place and time; because the personality can express the author's point of view through his/ her lived reality and the psychological, social, intellectual and ideological dimensions that s/he possesses.
