Algeria has adopted a public policy for environmental protection, defining general objectives, setting various standards and appropriate tools to achieve effective protection.

And this from the publication of Decree No.

74-156, which created a national committee for environmental protection.

However, the activation of this protection requires the involvement of local authorities, and this is what was provided for by the National Charter of 1976, which affirmed that local authorities must play an important role in the implementation of the environmental protection policy.

This is what was confirmed by the Algerian legislator in the law of 2011 relating to the municipality and that of 2012 relating to the wilaya.

This role has been reinforced by several laws, including the most important are the law of land use planning and the law of environmental protection

L'Algérie a adopté une politique publique de protection de l'environnement, en définissant des objectifs généraux, en fixant diverses normes et outils appropriés pour parvenir à une protection efficace.

Et ce à partir de la publication du décret n° 74-156, qui a créé un comité national pour la protection de l'environnement.

Cependant, l’activation de cette protection, nécessité l’implication des collectivités territoriales , et c'est ce qui était prévu par la Charte nationale de 1976, qui affirmait que les collectivités territoriales doivent jouer un rôle important dans la mise en œuvre de la politique de protection de l'environnement.C’est ce qu’a confirmé par le législateur algérien dans la loi de 2011relative à la commune et celle de 2012 relative à la wilaya.Ce rôle a été renforcé par plusieurs lois, dont les plus importantes sont la loi sur l’aménagement et l’urbanisme et la lois sur la protection de l'environnement.
