Being the center of civilization and having a distinct geographical location that links between the west and the East, Iraq has witnessed extensive fame all over the world during different ages.

Moreover, Iraq's great monuments and natural resources make it the destination for many Foreigner travelers throughout the period of Ottoman Empire and the period after it.

This study aims to shed light on the conditions of the city of Al-Amara in all its aspects (urban, social and economic).

Based on the manuscripts of the travelers.

Since ancient times, the southern Iraq, including A-Amara, gained a great part of their attention considering all these aspects.

As the travelers had to pass through Al-Amara in their to Baghdad because it is located on the road between Basra and Baghdad.

There were also some travelers who paid attention to the Iraqi marshes- mainly Al-Amaras marshes.

And some of them settled there for many years and gave us an accurate description of all the aspects of life in the villages and marshes
