The Imamate is a group of Shiites who say that the Imamate of Imam Ali and eleven of his sons, are infallible and purified, and are stipulated by the Sunnah and the Quran.

The Imamiya is called by several names, such as the Shiites, the Ja’faris, the Twelvers, and sometimes the Rawafidh or the Rejectionists.

The title of Imamiya is one of the titles given to them, as well as the Twelver Imami Shiites, the Imamiya, or the Jaafaris, and they are an Islamic religious sect whoadmit the infallibility of the imamate.

This name was given to them to distinguish them from other sects that bear the name of Shiites, such as the Zaydis and the Ismailis.

Because of their belief that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had stipulated twelve imams to succeed him, the Imamiya doctrine of the imamate was the main difference between it and the rest of the Islamic sects.
