يحاول هذا البحث دراسة مقاربة إشكالية العلاقة المعقدة بين العالم العربي و الغرب ؛ لذا اختار زمنين لإعادة قراءتهما، ففيهما تضاعف التلاقي السلمي عن طريق الترجمة ؛ إذ وقع الزمن الأول في القرن الرابع الهجري، حينما أسس الخليفة العباسي المأمون بيت الحكمة ؛ إذ قام المترجمون بنقل التراث الفلسفي، و العلمي اليوناني إلى العربية، و حصل الزمن الثاني في نهاية القرن الثامن عشر الميلادي، و بدايات القرن العشرين، و هو ما يطلق عليه "عصر النهضة العربية الحديثة" ؛ إذ عكف العالم العربي، و الإسلامي على ترجمة الأعمال الحديثة الكبرى للغرب، و يقارب البحث الشروط التي تدفع ثقافة ما إلى التوجه نحو ثقافة أخرى ؛ لتنهل منها، فضلا عن تسليط الضوء على بعض المفاهيم و المصطلحات الأساسية التي أطرت التواصل بين الثقافتين من قبيل : العلمانية، و الأصالة و الحداثة، و الازدواجية، و التراث و التجديد، و لن يغيب عن هذه المقاربة في خضم علاقة التفاعل و التبادل المشترك تلك، أن تأخذ بالحسبان السياق التاريخي و الثقافي، الذي نمت في ظله هذه العلاقة.
Abstract EN
We approach in our intervention entitled, Arab world and occident : the two great periods of contact, the relationship between the two parts, by emphasizing the conditions of possibility of the crossing of cultures and its problems as well as western notions which have asked in-depth questions about Arab Muslim culture.
we try to highlight the occasions during which the many and rich contacts began to be established between the Arab world and the west.
it suffices to mention the warlike contacts that took place first during the Muslim conquests and their reaction, namely the crusades.
however, we still believe that a much more intense contact took place within the Arab world during two major phases during which a whole strategy of systematic translation was established, namely the establishment of the Beit al Hikma (houses of wisdom) in the eleventh century and much later the Nahda movement (end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century) during which the Arab Muslim world embarked on the translation of all the great modern works of the west.
all these variants and many others, even if they are disparate, nevertheless agree in not favoring the establishment of a relationship of interaction and mutual exchange that takes into account the cultural and historical factors involved.

Nous abordons dans notre étude intitulée, Monde arabe et Occident : les deux grandes périodes de contact, le rapport entre les deux parties, en mettant l'accent sur les conditions de possibilité du croisement de cultures et ses problématiques ainsi que des notions occidentales qui ont posé des questions approfondies à la culture arabo-musulmane.
Nous essayons de mettre en exergue les occasions au cours desquels des nombreux et riches contacts ont commencé à s'établir entre Le monde arabe et l'Occident.
Il suffit, pour comprendre, en effet d'évoquer les contacts guerriers qui ont eu lieu au cours des conquêtes musulmanes et les croisades.
Nous estimons encore qu'un contact bien plus intense a eu lieu au sein du monde Arabe à l'occasion de deux grandes phases durant lesquels s'établit toute une stratégie de traduction systématique, à savoir l'établissement des Beit al Hikma (maisons de sagesse) au onzième siècle et bien plus tard le mouvement de la Nahda (fin du 19ème et début du 20ème siècle au cours duquel le monde arabo musulman se lança dans la traduction de toutes les grandes ceuvres modernes de l'Occident.
Toutes ces variantes et bien d'autres seraient-elles disparates, s'accordent pourtant à ne pas favoriser la mise en place d'une relation d'interaction et d'échange mutuel qui tienne compte des facteurs culturels et historiques mis en œuvre.
