Rural development and urban development are the cornerstone of the progress of society, and the imbalance between them in development is one of the main reasons for impeding the national development programs to achieve their goals.

The research aims to study the reality and possibilities of sustainable rural development in Al-Dari district in Basra governorate in order to work on developing the population centers in the district and improving the level of services in it.

The research adopted the descriptive analytical method by describing the study area, analyzing the data and the factors affecting rural development in the Al-Deir district.

The study showed the existence of natural and human geographic components for sustainable rural development in Al-Dear district, but it suffers from problems that can be avoided by developing a strategy that works to develop the rural community in the study area.

The study assumed the development of a rural development plan for the optimal use of the natural and human resources available in the district, and to adopt strategies to develop and develop the agricultural sector, improve the efficiency of agricultural land use with industrialization, and improve the service sector in the medium and long term in order to achieve integrated rural development in the Al-Dear district.
