Abstract EN

The main purpose of this study is to shed new lights on the divorce rates: their patterns, trends, causes and consequences in the Arab Region in recent decades.

Furthermore, an attempt was made to explain their changes during the last two decades based on the following factors: the major dimensions of de mographic behavior, the socio-economic situation, cultural values and legal changes, on the total level of the region, the average median of divorce rate was 25.5 percent in 2019, i.e., one fourth of marriages ended with divorce.

There are great differences in divorce rates among regions and countries of Arab World.

Of the demographic elements, it was found that the correlation between each of the following variables: An early marriage, educational level and income level was negative.

Moreover, divorce rates in urban areas were higher than rural areas.

On the other hand, the relation between cost of housing and religiosity correlated positively.

As for the cultural values, a statistical exploration is re ally needed because of measurement difficulties
