Abstract EN

The research aimed at investigate the growth and Development of novel written in Nigerian literatures, this comprises the novels in indigenous languages (Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba) and the one that were written in foreign languages (Arabic and English).

Historical method was adopted to achieve the aims and objectives of the research.

The results of the study explained that, novels in indigenous language existed for one decade and half before English novels.

The first indigenous novel writer in English in Nigeria was pioneered by the legendary Amos Tutuola in the 1950s, after which many English novel writers emerged and many English novels were published while Social and political problems became subjects of the novels till 1970s when numerous numbers of literary works were published.

Finally, the research examined that, Arabic Novel was not known in Nigeria at the earlier time due to some religion and cultural factors.

Many researchers have affirmed that this first Arabic novel with all artistic and linguistics component was published in 2003, after which many Arabic literary writers have authored several novels.
