Abstract EN

This research is a study of one of al-Jarh (discrediting) and al-Tadil (confirming) utterances that al-Bukhari specifically used.

It is his comment on some narrators by saying "They remained silent about him or Sakato? anhu." The importance of research lies in the style of al-Bukhari in the science of al-Jarh and al-Tadil, as well as the relationship of the expressions of al-Jarh and al-Tadil that scholars use for the narrators when they accept the narrator’s hadith and when they reject it.

The expression "Sakato? anhu" has two meanings.

The first: the scholars kept silent from speaking in the case of the narrator, so they did not subject him to al-Jarh or al-Tadil, and the second: the scholars remained silent about the narration of the narrator’s hadith being very weak, and al-Bukhari did not explicitly state any of the two meanings, and also his use of this phrase was very rare, and he is the only one, among scholars, to use it for the narrators.

Because of these combined matters I prepared this research, and the research aims to clarify the meaning of the phrase of al-Bukhari "Sakato ?anhu" which he gives to describe some of the narrators, and to know what the scholars-other than al-Bukhari-said about the narrators whom al-Bukhari judged by the expression: "They remained silent about him", and the research concluded that the phrase "Sakato? anhu" according to al-Bukhari is one of the terms of severe discrediting, and it indicates that the narrator's hadith has been abandoned.
