Speech is the oldest thing that a person has used to communicate with others, either by hand gestures, facial expressions, or speech.

recently, the term "discourse" has been circulated in literary criticism, as a collection of sentences, messages, and sayings of the preacher which he sends to the recipient.

sometimes it may come in the form of prose or poetry, or both together.

the recipient of the speech is either the speaker himself or another person who is the addressee of the speech.

a speech is a content that contains the sender and the addressee, and it is either an appeal, or an interrogation, or news, or an expression of the sender's feelings and emotions to the recipient.

al-khattab varies in the literary text according to the poet's interests and convictions.

it may be a metapoetry, the media, or a cinematic discourse.

this study came with its descriptive-analytical approach to monitor communicative discourse, its types, and its functions in the collection of "valadayya aqval okhra" by the poet Karim Maatouk.

the study concluded that the poet took the discourse as an approach to express his psychological states and thoughts, as he formulated it with the most beautiful graphic methods and the sweetest phrases to attract the reader's attention and shed light on the concepts he wanted to express.
