Abstract EN

Government support policies are among the most important economic policies that affect some economic variables that support the process of economic growth, through their impact mainly on poverty rates in Iraq, which extended for many years and increased after 2003 for several reasons, including economic, social and political ones.

the research was based on the hypothesis that increasing government support would lead to alleviating the severity of poverty in Iraq and thus moving towards achieving economic and social development programs the research aims to clarify the concept of government support and the most important mechanisms used, especially in Iraq after 2003, and what are its most important economic and social effects, as well as finding an indicative relationship between government support policies and poverty indicators using the quantitative method.

in Iraq, including (social security, social protection network, ration card system), the research reached several conclusions and recommendations, including: - 1- poverty is one of the most important reasons that impede the human development process in Iraq, and there are also multiple reasons behind the increase in poverty, including the high unemployment rate among young people, as well as the conditions that Iraq has experienced as a result of wars and the economic siege imposed on Iraq and the transfer of most of its financial resources to finance military expenditure.

2- the Iraqi economy is affected by the crises that occur in the global oil market due to the decrease in global demand for energy (oil), which led to a decrease in oil revenues and thus negatively affected government support allocations so that support allocations depend largely on Iraq’s ability to export in addition to oil prices this means that these allocations are sensitive to the shocks that Iraq is exposed to.
