Abstract EN

This paper focuses on collecting, authenticating and commenting on the wordings of istighfar attributed to the Prophet, pbuh.

The Prophet used these great words for supplications in all circumstances and times, whether limited or unlimited, for himself or for others.

The paper includes an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion.

Chapter 1: Wordings of istighfar for one’s self.

This chapter contains two sections: (1) unlimited statements and (2) limited statements.

Chapter 2: Wordings of istighfar meant for others.

This chapter also contains two sections: (1) Statements of istighfar for specific persons and (2) Statements of istighfar for nominal persons.

The most important findings include the following: There are 33 statements of istighfar Most of the statements are rigorously authentic and few are authentic while few others are weak.

The number of hadiths including these statements are 38.
