Abstract EN

The purpose of this paper is to examine instances of growing interest among Arab writers in researching “mothering” compatible (or not compatible) with the socially desirable motherhood.

The author extracted examples of themes in texts that featured mothering in different contexts, through both field research and subjective disclosure, as an illustration of the multiplicity of forms of experiencing motherhood; this is in contrast with narratives that promote a normative and universal motherhood, with fixed features in our public discourses.

In an appendix to the paper, are reviews of five books that dealt with afore-mentioned mothering: Three field studies and two testimonies.
