Abstract EN

Objective: this research aims to identify the determinants and shaping factors of confidence in the government; disclosure of perceived actions to gain citizens' trust and criteria for evaluating government performance from the respondents' point of view.

methodology: research relied upon an anthropological qualitative methodology based on participant observation and semi-structured interviews.

results: the results are consistent with the findings of several researches that have found a decline and erosion of confidence in government and its institutions.

the cultural representations of government show the reasons for this decline and erosion and perceived confidence-building procedures and criteria against which citizens assess the functioning of the government, most notably justice, equity, inclusion.
