Abstract EN

This study aimed at identify the relationship between spatial ability and achievement in mathematics among third secondary school scientific section at the schools of al-Mahra province-republic of Yemen.

the researcher used the analytical descriptive approach.

the tool used in testing spatial ability was prepared by the researcher and it was applied on random cluster sample, of 200 male and female pupils for the year 2020-2021.

the results of the study found a positive correlation of (0.51), which reflects a significant correlation coefficient between the students' scores in the spatial ability test and their scores in mathematics achievement.

there are also statistically significant differences at the level (a≤0.05) between the average spatial ability in mathematics among third year secondary pupils- the scientific section, it is due to the variable of gender and in favor of females, and there are statistically significant differences at the level (a≤0.01) in the spatial ability of third year secondary pupils due to the achievement variable (high- medium-low) in favor of the high achievement category on the medium and low achievement, and in favor of the medium achievement category over the low one.

based on the results, the researcher recommended the need to increase attention and focus on spatial ability in teaching mathematics, in addition to suggestions for future studies on the subject.
