Abstract EN

It is well-known that scholars of Hadith conducted a foundational analysis of all aspects related to the preservation and precision in the reporting of the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

They filtered out the rejected hadiths and called what is attributed directly to the prophet marfu' which is regarded authentic, while hadiths that are attributed to the prophet's companions are called mawquf 'suspended'.

The latter is used as supporting narrations.

Another related category that falls halfway is called almarfu'a hukman 'what is attributed to the prophet discretionally'.

This is considered authentic as such.

This study revisits the early arguments of Hadith scholars about this category of Hadith, shedding lights on the term Nahw Al-Raf 'Methods of Hadith Attribution's used by Imam Al-Darqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) in his book Al-'Ilal 'Dfect'.

We argued that the term used in this book refers to almarfu'a hukman 'what is attributed to the prophet discretionally', based on the analysis of 22 occurrences of the term in the book.
