Abstract EN

This study examines the altitude of Libyan youths and their trends towards marriage and childbearing.

This is in the view of what has occurred to their situations and cases specially on the age of marriage, the standards of choosing a spouse, relatives marriage, the difficulties that stands behind their desire to marry, their opinions in some aspects that is related to family life, their knowledge of family organization methods and their opinions in using them, the decisions related to childbearing, the numbers of children they wish to have throughout their marriage-life (after marriage) and the preferences in having weather males of females children.

To achieve its aims, this study is based on a random sample of Libyan youths which is (3237) male and female youths, which (the sample) was taken from final sample that is related to the Libyan survey sample of family and child health..

The study has reached a number of results, the most important of which is that the average age suitable for marriage for men is about 29 years old while the average age suitable for marriage for women is around 23 years old, according to the opinions of the study sample; as well as the refusion of most of youths to the idea of relatives marriage.

The results also have shown that the youths (females and males) wish to have a partner who has completed university education; additionally, the study results showed that the rate of knowledge of the manners of family organization within females and males youths is high; In addition to that the study has showed that the number of children that are wished to be obtained throughout life- marriage is about 4 children, also it approved that the preferred child-sex for both males and females youths is a male-child.

Also, the results has uncovered that there are difficulties which stand between the Libyan youths and the achievement of their desire to marry (specially men), the most important of which is : the unavailability of independent housing for them and the difficulty to obtain it in addition to the raise of costs to marry.
