The concept of urban sustainability is generally concerned with the process of developing cities in light of spatial data through the optimal use of natural resources and economically without wastage, and respect for natural ingredients and spatial environmental limits.

Where urban sustainability is works to create interactive places that focus on the continuity of interdependence between place and population through the adoption of green approaches and as a distinctive and good strategy when choosing a spatial signature for the establishment of new cities.

Choosing of site that achieves the goals of establishing and sustaining new cities, by building a suitability-model using geographic information systems (GIS).

The most appropriate for the establishment of new cities, so several criteria and indicators were employed to build a model of spatial suitability for the sites of new cities, and then to analyze and evaluate their spatial suitability according to the dimensions of urban sustainability and the criteria of sustainable spatial signature after using a questionnaire form for the opinions of experts in giving weights to the criteria, both according to their relative importance and the degree of its impact.

The researcher concluded that the results of the maps of spatial suitability for Al-Sayyab City-Basra (the study area) have a good degree of suitability by (63%) and (53%) at the level of the proposed site of the city and at the level of the city of Basra, respectively.

The study also concluded that the percentages achieved for the dimensions of sustainability were (58% for the environmental dimension, 68% for the social dimension, 65% for the economic dimension.
