Abstract EN

The concern for the quality of Algerian higher education institutions has become persistent for many reasons, including the dropping of these institutions in their international ranking, and their inability to qualify young people to match the needs of the labor market.

good governance is a gateway to achieve quality in Algerian higher education institutions, it allows the provision of the legal frame work which defines the responsibilities and protects the rights.

according to the mentioned above, this study attempts to project the principles of good governance (independence, transparency, accountability, ethics) on the management of Algerian higher education institutions, in order to investigate the extent to which the principles of good governance are embodied in those institutions to achieve total quality.

to this aim, the study used a questionnaire as a tool to collect data from the studied sample; 225 questionnaires were distributed to professors in different institutions of higher education, 156 ones have been retrieved and analyzed.

the study concluded that the Algerian higher education institutions have not yet established these principles, primarily due to the lack of transparency, accountability and ethics in the management these institutions.
