This article aims to study the impact of national sovereignty on the international cooperation in confronting the risks of natural disasters.

despite the severity of the phenomenon and the significant physical and human impacts left by natural disasters across various regions of the world, and despite the existence of multilateral cooperation and coordination frameworks at the regional and global levels, the joint response to disasters and the organization of relief and rescue operations is still limited in scope, as the affected countries prefer to deal with the disaster individually because of the sensitivity towards its national sovereignty, and the desire to appear controlling the situation and capable of dealing with the post- disaster situation.

political considerations also interfere in accepting or rejecting aid provided by foreign governments, which ultimately affects caring for those affected and accelerating the recovery process from the direct and indirect repercussions of the disaster.
