Abstract EN

This research attempts to identify the most important western schools on which Algerian critics relied in their reception of the semiotic approach, especially the French school.

this is because the contemporary critical discourse in Algeria is, entirety, an extension of western criticism, which has had a profound impact on the visions and ideas of our critics, such as Abd elMalek Mortad and Rachid ben Malek, who have drawn heavily on the work of the most prominent semiotic theorists in Europe.

the efforts of these critics have been united around a common goal, namely to establish contemporary Arabic criticism and keep pace with the rapid developments in world criticism, especially after the impact that the Saussurean linguistic lesson has had on it.

their understanding of semiotic theory was an important factor in its transfer to the Arab environment, which is evident in their various studies and translations.

their representation of the sayings and concepts of narrative semiotics and their understanding of its procedural tools were distinctive, as they helped to localize it in Arab culture.
