The constitutional amendment of 2020 marked a qualitative shift in the realm of constitutional oversight in Algeria.

for the first time, the establishment of a constitutional court replaced the constitutional council, thereby revisiting the supervisory and advisory roles of this constitutional institution and unveiling a new structure for its composition.

among the innovations introduced by the recent constitutional amendment, following the retention of both the elective and appointive methods for membership in the constitutional court, the constitutional legislator excluded the parliament from membership in the court, retaining only representation from the judiciary, albeit halved, and introducing, for the first time, the election of half of the court's composition from professors of constitutional law.

this necessitates a closer examination and analysis of the diverse composition of the constitutional court.
