Abstract EN

Our study aimed to find out the extent of the possibility of implementing sustainable tourism development in Iraq, by conducting an exploratory study of the opinions of managers working in the Iraqi Tourism Authority regarding the dimensions of sustainable tourism development represented by (the economic dimension, the social dimension, and the environmental dimension).

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher relied on the descriptive and analytical approach.

(103) questionnaires were distributed to (general directors, department heads, and division officials) for the purpose of surveying their opinions about the availability of the investigated variables.

In addition to conducting personal interviews that were conducted with officials in the Authority, the problem of the study revolved around the following main question: (What is the level of interest of the research sample in the Iraqi Tourism Authority in achieving sustainable tourism development?) The research reached a number of results, the most important of which are: The Tourism Authority is interested in sustainable tourism development at a good level, as it works to ensure that the tourism sector is an important source of national income and achieve social welfare, as well as preserving the customs and traditions of society and spreading environmental awareness among the beneficiaries.
