Abstract EN

This paper attempts to explore the topic of theatrical entertainment as a cross-art term that includes theatrical and semi-theatrical forms, and its relationship to the Arab spring.

additionally, it will shed light on the transformations of theatrical entertainment aesthetically and intellectually, and clarify its ability to accommodate the demands of change.

to achieve this end, two theatrical performances have been selected by the playwrights Tawfiq al-Jabali and the brothers Ahmed and Muhammad.

to attain the aforementioned goal, the semiotic approach blended with the vocabulary of social analysis will be employed to identify the political and social transformations of the viewer community in reading performances and their non-linguistic signs.

through this approach, a number of results and conclusions have been reached; the most notable being the multidimensional nature of the theatrical spectacle including the social, historical, political and cultural dimensions.

this is best reflected in the Arabic theater anticipation of the major transformations that the Arab countries are experiencing.

furthermore, the Arab spring also enabled playwrights to address taboo topics, especially the trilogy (politics, religion, sex), etc.

branching out from this trinity are freedom, democracy, and moral liberation.
