Abstract EN

This research paper studies the grammatical probabilities of the poetic evidence according to Ibn al-Sirafi's book Sharh Abyat Sibawaih [Explanation of the Verses in Sibawaih's Book], which is considered one of the most important books of al- Shawahid al-Nahwiyah dealing with Shawahid Sibawaih.

The research aims to answer a set of questions : To which extent is Ibn al-Sirafi capable of presenting grammatical possibilities of words and structures in the Shawahid Sibawaih? Are these possibilities palatable and do they have accepted meanings that do not contradict rules of the Arabic language? Or are these possibilities farfetched and infused with complexity and many assumptions? Do these possibilities change the meaning of the poetic evidence? Or are they due to differences in grammatical rules that do not harm the compositions or vocabulary? There is no doubt that the possibilities usually arise for reasons that are beyond the origin of the linguistic text, the most important of which being the discrepancy in the understanding of the text, its comprehension among its analysts and commentators and their differences in intellectual orientation.

Therefore, the grammatical judgments cannot be subjected to decisiveness and assertiveness.

Language reflects man's skeptical and mysterious nature.

That is why we attempt to follow Ibn al-Sirafi's approach in understanding and analyzing the text; and in presenting the possibilities, whether he wanted to reject the grammatical views, or to indicate the all cases are permissible; or to state some structural patterns.
