This research deals with the “forms of place and their connotations” in the novel “Above Sorrows” by Dr.

Hassan AlBandari.

The events of this novel revolve around the war of attrition that followed the setback of one thousand nine hundred and sixty-seven.

This novel expresses a living experience that the writer lived, and formulated it in his interesting style.

To express the suffering of the Egyptian people as a result of the setback.

This novel was chosen; Because the place is the main character in it, even if it is not stated in the title, and it performs several functions in the narrative, including: forming the framework of the event, moving the reader’s imagination to visualize the places, and using the place with its symbolic significance, to be an indicator of the events.

How is place formed in the novel, and what are its most important forms? 2.

What is the relationship of place to the rest of the elements of the novel? 3.

What connotations do these places used in the fictional text carry? 4.
