Abstract EN

This research poses various questions and assumptions: Is the play text reiteration of historical narrative? To what extent it opposes or concurs with it? Is the history a "mask" or a "mirror" for understanding the status quo? How does the text play out its symptoms to produce the meaning and transcend any idealogical narrative? How can the interpretation of symptoms assist us in perceiving the "Declared and Hidden" in the structural text of the drama? This study endeavors to answer these questions in applying them to the the "Zoba Almasriah" Play by the writer Mohammed Abu Alola Alsalamouni who’s plays writing experience excelled, in general, on reinterrogation of history.

The research in the text analysis benefited from the most important categories of methodologies; namely, structural and semiotics, in order to identify the principal elements and their interpretations for being collective indicators which point out to whatever reference.

This is on the one side, on the other side, it facilitates to the reader the chance of interpretation away from being preoccupied with the intents of the writer.

The research revolves around seven basic symptoms of the text which cannot be interpreted except through these symptoms: source story acting as a reference framework which was represented through a marginal historical story which Alsalamouni has access to, in the History of AlJabarti.

Also the form which displayed the tragedy at its best, and then the remainder of the known elements of the play, such as the title, the dialogue language, guidance, signs, space with its contents and time, the characters and the acts of drama, fashion and accessories and finally the Ideological discourse which discusses the duality of east and west.

The research concludes that, the theatrical text does not get preoccupied with reiterating the historical narrative per se, but rather uses it as a mask expressing the reality of the status quo, and further the writer does not hide his ideologies but rather endeavors to slip them through the lines, whether by being biased towards certain historical aspects or through interrogation of characters to express his own .
