Ancient Arab literature still reveals beautiful artistic treasures that highlight the richness and vitality of Arab heritage and its bifurcation of trends.

Being a neglected chapter in modern Arab studies of heritage, Arab geographical literature, one of the most important discoveries of the first half of the twentieth century, drew the attention of a group of orientalists in the east and the West that was headed by the Russian orientalist Ignatius Krachkovsky.

This research aims to uncover what this literary genre is.

In addition, through Krachkovsky’s book on the history of Arab geographic literature and a focus on the literature’s most important technical characteristics that made it a form of literary writing rather than scientific writing, the research aims to present its principal patterns through its long and complex development stages.

Krachkovsky endeavoured to collect abundant material from numerous Arab compilations and classify them historically, so that the studied period exceeds nine whole centuries, from the third to the eleventh century AH, making his book a distinct reference for Arab geographical literature Krachkovsky has contributed to expanding the horizons of the literary and critical lessons of ancient Arab geographic literature by directing contemporary researchers to this field.

He has revealed the richness of this scientific material that is waiting to unveil its many scientific and literary mysteries.
