With Paul Ricoeur in particular, and others who worked in hermeneutics in general, we realize that there is a dialectical relationship between understanding and interpretation.

this relationship cannot be determined unless there is an answer to questions such as: what is understanding? and what is the interpretation? how can we improve them? it is around these questions that the elements of this article are centered, defining: understanding, interpretation, epistemological asymmetry and the inherent hermeneutical link between them.
