the disputed maritime border areas, the general international jurisdiction of the international court of justice, the specialist of the international tribunal for the law of the sea along with the special arbitration tribunals have all played an important role in the settlement of many maritime boundary disputes.

the judgments are very frequently pronounced in favor of the party providing the evidence with the most critical or unambiguous support value.

the final judgments have contributed to the establishment of a number of principles, foundations and legal norms widely recognized by the international community, and they have served as an essential reference for the settlement of any dispute over maritime boundaries between one or more neighboring states.
