Abstract EN

This study explored the historical aspects of the evolution of Arabic writing since its beginnings by looking at the historical and contemporary efforts made by scholars to improve and develop Arabic writing.

computerization of Arabic letters played a pivotal role in the study, where the most prominent shortcomings and problems hindering the computerization of Arabic writing were identified, as well as the most important efforts to develop technologies that help use Arabic letters in digital systems.

the study also evaluated progress in computerized recognition of Arabic handwriting by converting handwritten text to digital text using artificial neural networks, or converting printed text to digital text using hidden Markov models, which are a type of probabilistic mathematical processing.

all of this highlights the importance of Arabic writing as an inseparable part of the Arab cultural identity, and how it can preserve its heritage while keeping up with modern technological developments.
