Abstract EN

The current study aims to shed light on the various forms of violence against women in Algerian society.

we employed a descriptive and clinical approach as the most appropriate methods for our subject.

using case studies of women seeking psychological assistance for different issues, it was determined that they encountered diverse manifestations of violence, such as marital, sibling, and parental violence.

we selected six cases for analysis.

for data collection, we have employed clinical interviews along with the Cooper Smith self-esteem inventory and the meaning in life scale developed by Haroun Rashidi in 1996.

the findings revealed that violence had several psychological effects on the women, including decreased self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, diminished sense of meaning in life, feelings of frustration, and a tendency toward isolation, among others.

additionally, some psychosomatic disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, loss of appetite, and alopecia were observed.

we also found that the forms of violence can be categorized into two main types: physical and psychological, with no significant difference in the degree or intensity of psychological effects based on the type of violence or the relationship with the perpetrator.
