Abstract EN

It has become apparent that the pattem of the relationship between man and the environment needs to be altered in a way that necessitates the search fbr a new philosophical foundation for Environmental Education .

This study reveals that there are more than one philosophy attempting to explain and guide man's relationship with the environment .

To begin with, there is the Determinism and the Possiblilism school .

Then there is the Mr"rtualism and Gaia.

The study shows that these philosophical trends both link with one anofher and diverge from each other in viewing the development of marr's relationslrip with the environment and the effects that has both spatially and temporally.

The study stresses that although it is not feasible to adopt the Determinism philosophy in Environmental Education, other philosophies are only philosophical justification for the orientation and behaviour exhibited by man towards his environment at present.

This status quo is based on a view of total embark on a radical review of such orientations and behaviour towards the environment and to search for foundation for a philosophy of Environmental Education.
