Abstract EN

The issue that this paper raises is concerned with the verdict of the Islamic Shari'ah (law) when "Waqf' is no more considered valid on the grounds that it is a noncommittal act.

after it has been officially registered in accordance with Islamic doctrines.

The study provides us with a genuine source of information as 10 the cultural life in Damascus in terms of operating schools, names of judges in courts, and sheiks and instructors at schools.

It is also considered as ;i record for a collection of "Waqf Books" in one of the schools 'of Damascus during the period covered by this study.

If anything, this study helps in understanding the nature of the cultural heritage and the culture of books prevailing then, not to mention the social, and economic connotations these books bear.
