Abstract EN

This Paper explores the dualism of “light” to "fire” in Abu Nawwas' Poetry.

The Poet was influenced by the heathen Persian who believed in the binarism of light and dark, but did not embrace their beliefs.

This Dualism, was connected to his Psychological state.

Darkness some times symbolizes Secrecy, while Day time reveals his Vices and depravities.The image of fire is clear in his Poetry; he expressed his own feeling using "fire"’ figuratively.

“Fire” was also used in connection with hell and its fire due to its being associated in the poet's mind with fear because he felt that his moral decline was against Islam.

Moreover, “fire” was related to his irreligiositv manifested in his doubts and ridicule of religion.
