The present study seeks to highlight the salient features of the life and tasawwuf of Shihab u-l-din AL-Suhrawadi to analyse patterns of his poetry in light of the interpretations that sufi offered regarding terms of sufism, and to uncover the prominent artistic features of such poetry.

The study shows that the sufi poetry of AL-Suhrawardi stemmed from a rich and profound spiritual experience which was crystalised in a symbolic language with a nostalgia and thus distiguished his poetry as passionate and sad.
