Abstract EN

The problem of food and achieving food security is one of the most important economic problems that people suffer from.

This problem needs serious effective economic .scientific and political efforts to overcome the obstacles and causes of this problem . The failure in achieving food security is, in fact, due to the nature of the underdeveloped economic and social situation in the country which produces a retarded agricultural situation unable to answer the population needs of food.

The agricultural sector is so weak and almost destroyed that is has a great impact on the nature of the low agricultural production levels of the different food cereals. This research reveals the fact of this feeding gap in Hadhramout governorate through some of the available agricultural producing indicators.

The research is interested in studying the following : 1.

Studying the agricultural production indicators in Hadhramout governorate (H.G.) and specifying the change percentage of those indicators to make an estimate of the agricultural progress level for the period of the study specified from 2001 - 2005 . 2.

Specifying the fact of the feeding gap which shows a marked leak of different cereal groups reaching 90.3 % .

It varies between 70.6 % .96.7 % .77.4 % .91.6 % .and 97.3 % of the following cereals sorghum .maize (corn), millet .wheat, legumes, respectively.

A lack of vegetables varied between 83.3 % .11.6 % .60.3 % .94.3 % of tomatoes .water melon .sweet melon .potatoes .respectively .Onions and some of fruits viz . Dates .pananas .and papaya show self_ satisfaction. 3.

Studying and analyzing the causes of the feeding gap in Hadhramout governorate. 4.

Putting a geographical vision to develop the agricultural production levels to avoid the effects of the feeding gap in the governorate.
