Abstract EN

The views of researchers vary in defining the exact meaning of the southern Arabian terms and denotations: ‘Yment’, ‘Aa-Asa'a’, ‘Al- Sheher’ and ‘Al-Ahgaf.’ This research attempts to define terms accurately since they are still used in research and studies.

The study begins with a discussion about the term, ‘Ymnet’ and its political and geographical denotations as compared to inscriptive and linguistic data, serving to provide context to attain the exact meaning of the term as used in the Hemiri Royal title.

The researcher then discusses the terms, ‘Al- Asa'a’ and ‘Al- Sheher’ regarding the dictionaries definitions, pervious historical research and inscriptions concerned with these two terms to obtain specific conceptual denotations surrounding these terms.

Finally, the researcher discusses ‘Al-Ahgaf’ and its geographical and historical denotations, focusing on historic evidence since this term refers to the homeland of the ‘A'ad’ people mentioned in the Holy Quran.

Data are provided with reference to previous dictionaries and historic studies about Al-Ahgaf.

The paper has been divided into three major sections, the first of which discusses the term, ‘Ymnet’, the second discusses "Al- Asa'a" and "Al-Sheher" and the third discusses ‘Al-Ahgaf’.

The meanings of these three terms, ‘Ymnet’, ‘Al- Asa'a’, and ‘Al-Sheher’ found on the Hadhrami coast are summarized, whereas ‘Al- Ahgaf’ is considered according to the following conclusions reached: 1- The meaning of ‘Al-Ahgaf’ is the homeland of the ‘A'ad’ people in northern Arabia, ‘Al Sham’, and not in Yemen.

2- The name, Hadhramout ‘Ahgaf’, comes from its idiomatic denotation and not from the one mentioned in the Holy Quran.
