Abstract EN

This Research focuses on the study and analysis of Palestinian political discourse related to the British mandate and the British policy in Palestine from July 1920 to June 1928.

Palestinians (specifically al bourgeois, prominent owners of property, etc., and some religious leaders) offered moderate political speeches, indicating acceptance of the British mandate (if not explicitly) in exchange for the relinquishing the clauses related to the Jewish national homeland in Palestine and making amendments to the British policy and British administration in Palestine (as related to the Zionist project, not Britain).

However, Britain ignored comments on amending the political discourse such that the mandate was completely rejected, leaving Britain solely responsible for the thereafter political and economic deterioration.

This study shows, however, that escalating rhetoric did not result in cutting ties with Britain or classifying it as an enemy state.

Rather, Palestinians expressed a willingness to cooperate with Britain in the interest of both parties, although they viewed such cooperation unrelated to the Zionist project.
