Jordanian libraries are active computerizing their services, particuiriy using PCs.

It is now the time to introduce one flexible format to be used for constructing their bibliographic databases, in order to avoid the difficulties that faced libraries of developed countries due to the great variations dominating therein.

Jordanian libraries have to adopt CCF as exchange format; and develop a local format based on CCF, ARISNET and CEHANET formats that are familiar here.

The new format has to cover the discripancies in the three formats related to non-book materials.

It has to meet the requirements of the various types, sizes and languages of the collections, be machine independent, and adopt the acknowledged Arab and international tools for technical processing.

The essential tool for the bibliographic databases, namely the authority file, should be constructed starting on national level and to be developed gradually on regional level.

The paper recommends the steps required for constructing both the format and authority file.
