Abstract EN

In this study, a survey for the aquatic predators of Culicinae and Anophelinae mosquito larvae and pupae )Diptera: Culicidae( in Riyadh Region was conducted during the period June.

2003 -July 2004.

During the survey, 99 aquatic predators were collected from 46 sites in the study area.

The collected predators consisted of 9 different arthropods predators, in addition to the mosquito-fish, Gambusia affinis Poey,1854 )Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliidae(.Some of the collected predators were found active throughout the year, like the Odonata nymphs of the families Coenagrionidae and Libellulidae, the water bug Sigara sp.)Hemiptera: Corixidae(; the mosquito fish G.

affinis and the water beetle Agabus sp.

Leach, 1817 )Coleoptera: Dytiscidae(.

Some of the predators showed seasonal activity such as the water crustacean Triops sp.

Bosc, 1801 )Notostraca: Triopsidae(, the adult water beetles Eretes stictus Linne, 1767 )Coleoptera: Dytiscidae(, the larvae of the beetle Cybister tripunctatus Bedel, 1881 )Coleoptera: Dytiscidae( and adult water beetles Dineutes aereus klug, 1834 )Coleoptera: Gyrinidae(.

High level of coexistence and association has been observed between these aquatic predators and their preys of mosquito larvae of the genera Culex, Aedes, Anopheles and Culiseta.

The role of total dissolved salts and pH of the water in the breeding sites on the survival of these predators was discussed.
