Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify research done in the field of vegetable sustainable agriculture-plant protection –in both col lege of agriculture-University of Baghdad – Ministry of science and Technology ,and the General Board of Agricultural Research for the period 1996-2006 .The study also aimed to identify the level of plant protection specialists, extension workers ,and farmer's knowledge concerning the results of these research and the respondent's perception toward some sustainable agriculture practices and the relationship between level of respondents' knowledge and some independent factors .The population of the study included all the researchers in the three above mentioned organizations and all protection specialists ,extension workers in the directorate of agriculture in Bagdad and its sections.

The study also included 3-4 farmers randomly taken from agricultural sections of Baghdad Governorate .The study revealed that the research done in the three organizations were 28,8,9 respectively , and the mean of research accomplished was high for the period 1998-2002 while it declined for the period 2003 -2006 due to the deterioration of security .The study also revealed that the level of respondent's knowledge were low for both plant protection specialists (25.24),extension workers (13.9)and farmers (3.54)whereas the attainable mark is (100) .The study also revealed a positive significant relationship between level of extension workers knowledge and their contact with resource of information .The level of plant protection specialists perception of the importance of sustainable agriculture was relatively high (the mean was 3.40), followed by extension Workers(3.10 ) ,while it was very low for farmers (2.28) since the attainable number is (5).

According to the findings of the study it is recommended to qualify researchers by specialized training courses for plant protection specialists ,and extension workers pertaining the results of sustainable agriculture research .It is also necessary to prepare extension programs in sustainable agriculture directed to farmers to clarify the advantages of the sustainable agriculture research results and to employ the indigenous knowledge of farmers .
