Abstract EN

This study is in the field of Sociolinguistics, which believes that it is possible to direct the linguistic phenomenon especially when qualified individuals lead the people and direct their behavior.

Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) was known of such qualities, and he could invest the various options that Arabic offered.

So, together with his being the prophet, he had the intelligence and talent to direct people in some intended directions consistent with the visions revealed to him.

The prophet (peace be upon him) directed some linguistic rearrangements either by consent, renunciation, alteration, or creation.

He managed to do this depending on his literary and ethical authority.

Hence his linguistic initiations were as compelling as his ethical/ behavior directions.

The prophet gained this authority from the position he enjoyed among his companions, and the companions’ willingness to accept his lead.

This was the result of psychological, social, and cultural factors imposed by the nature of Islam.

The linguistic change was systematic and comprehensive.

It meant in some cases changing the meanings of some words to suit the nature of Islam.

In other cases, it meant accepting some linguistic items as they were commonly used in the prevalent speech patterns.

In a third case, it meant complete renunciation of some items which were not coherent with the visions promoted by Islam.

In a fourth case, this change meant the creation of new unknown or uncommon linguistic trends.

Finally, it involved alteration of the meanings of some items either in optimism, euphemism, or out of politeness
