Abstract EN

The aim of the present study is to read the Lamiyah of Aws ibn Hajar as an example of the dialectic which exists between literary genres in general, and between poetry and narrative in particular.

In so doing, the study seeks to explore the extensions and transformations of meaning and the ways in which meaning is constructed, the features of textual transformations, and the phases involved in the formation of the poet’s identity, or self.

In order to achieve this aim, it was necessary to provide an introduction to certain aspects of those semiotic concepts which are most vital to a reading of the text.

Similarly, it was necessary to examine the parts of the text, its central theme, and its meaningful signs and to attempt an interpretation thereof.

The study concludes that the most important features of textual transformations are: the self, disregard for tribal customs and traditions (a disregard which can lead to latency of the sell), the self between falsification of awareness of falsity, the self between latency and development, accomplishment and development, Self and Other and the concept of belonging, and destruction of the Other and self-glorification.

As for the phases involved in the selfs formation, they are: the latent, potential self, the effective self, the emergent, realized self, and the glorified self.
